Tourist Places in Gulbarga
Gulbarga is a part of Indian state, Karnataka. It was previously renowned as the division of Nizam of Hyderabad. It is located 200 Km away form Hyderabad. It is a north eastern region in Southern India. It holds history in the era of 6th century and considered to be first capital of Bahamani Kingdom. Tourists are attracted to Gulbarga due to its sightseeing spot like, Bhamani fort. Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah holds a religious significance is often visited by the visitors.
Gulbarga Fort
Gulbarga Fort is constructed in Islamic style of architecture, by a feudatory of the Orangal Kakatiyas, Raja Gulchand. It is believed that the fort was fortified by Alauddin Bahman, after Gulbarga became the capital of the Bahmani Dynasty.
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid, situated within the ramparts of the Gulbarga Fort, resembles the mosque of Cordova, Spain. Established to commemorate Gulbarga as a Bahmani capital, it is one of the oldest mosques in southern India. The masjid was constructed in 1367 A.D., by Mohammad Bahmani and has various domes and narrow entrances. The roof of the masjid which has around 68 domes and looks like a pot, is one of the main attractions of the masjid.
Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah
Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah is considered as a tomb of Khwaja Syed Mohammad Gesu Daraz, a Sufi saint. It is constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The domes, arches and walls draw inspiration from the Bahmani, Turkish and Iranian architecture. There is a library in the dargah, that has a collection of around 10,000 books in different languages including Persian, Urdu and Arabic. The annual festival of Urs is celebrated at this dargah.
Sannati
Sannati is a small village situated on the shores of the Bhima River in Chitapur Taluk. The Chandrala Parameshwari Temple, located in the village, is popular among tourists. Various sculptures, tablets and terracotta items have been found in the excavation. This place is famous for the discovery of an ancient Buddhist Mahastupa. The Karnataka Government strives to establish the village as an International Buddhist Centre.
Deval Ghanagapur
Deval Ghanagapur Village is situated in the Afzalpur Taluk. This village is famous for the Nirgun Math Temple and Kalleshwar Temple. Sangam, also known as the Sangam Kshetra, is a prominent tourist attraction near the confluence of two rivers, Bhima and Amarja. Another popular attraction is the Ash Hill, located in the vicinity of the Sangam. As per legends, ash came out of the hill where Lord Parashurama performed meditation. The ash is considered to be holy and is believed to relieve sins.
Sharana Basaveshwara Temple
Sharana Basaveshwara Temple is located in the ancient town of Kalburgi. This temple is believed to be devoted to the Hindu philosopher and religious teacher, Shri Sharana Basaveshwara. He was a Lingayat saint and was known for Dasoha and Kayaka philosophy of ‘giving is earning’. The temple has the samadhi of Sharana Basaveshwara, which is known as Garbha Gudi. Dating back to the 12th century, the carvings of elephants, flowers, parrots, creepers and Garuda can be seen in the temple. The temple is also known for its Sabhamandapa, which consists of around 36 arches and numerous pillars. The temple is visited by many travellers on the occasion of the Jatra.
Chandrampalli Dam
Chandrampalli Dam is situated in Chandrampalli Village and is constructed on River Bhima. There is an island nearby, where activities like camping and trekking are enjoyed by tourists. The Hanuman Temple on the adjoining hill, can be reached by climbing a flight of steps.
Buddha Vihar
Buddha Vihar is recently built in Gulbarga on a big and best site of 70 acre land. It is known to be the nations biggest Statue and Mandir of Budhha. It is situated near to the most famous University known as Gulbarga University at Gulbarga. It is known to be built by the Siddartha Vihar Trust by Shri Mallikarjun Kharge which had completed the expenses of nearly Rs eight crore and is known to be one of the largest mandir in South India. The Siddartha Vihar Trust made this Vihar as the best tourist place as well as they are using it as a center of creativity and research on Buddhism.
There are many more places in Gulbarga. some of them are : District Science Centre, Kesaratgi Botanical Garden, Museum, Naganahalli Training Centre, Ram Mandir, Shiek Roza Minar, Aiwan Sahi Guest House, Haft Gumbaz etc etc.
